We just ate the Worst Food Ever !!

Ok so wednesday night comes along i'm starting to feel a little bit better, Chaps pops past to see how i am doing and we decide to check out our Mexican Food Competition in Jozi.

First up is Mexican Fresh in Blairgowrie.
The venue is smart, nice color scheme, green & white, looks neat and clean, you can see into the kitchen which is a plus.
They have no Aguas Fresca, only soft drinks and a fully stocked bar, bonus is they have soft drinks in glass 300ml bottles.
Menu has nothing too exciting on it, usual beef, chicken, veg & prawn in various combos, either tacos, enchiladas, burritos, salads or chimichangas

We order the soft chicken tacos and the hard shell beef tacos.
My corn tortillas could have been on the grill for a little longer the filling was insipid watery, chewy, flavorless yet salty chicken with cold cheese and lettuce, the sides included over cooked, over salty rice a weird roasted salsa and guac which was ok.

Beef tacos , the shell was fine the filling was flavorless beef strips, no mexican origanuim, no flavor, cold cheese and the meat had a weird rubbery texture, no lime, no brightness in flavor, just dull. The sides were the same as the chicken.
We left most of it, damage = R186
3 drinks
2 tacos

Still hungry and in search of a good taco, we head to Melville to Cafe Mexicho. This place is a frecking DUMP. I think its a wannabe cantina tequila minus the sanitation.

Look through the menu it make no sense at all, i think they made most of it up. Chaps and i order the beef double wrapped taco - a hard shell wrapped in a flour tortilla ???? any way the food comes, it's corn tortilla not a flour one and it's under cooked.
i lift the taco up and get a whiff of a weird scent, never-mind i munch down on the taco and i have never spat food out in a restaurant, this was the first time OMG !!! that was disgusting, on closer inspection the taco smelt like liver flavored cat food, looked a bit like it too, chaps didnt even try it , the gauc tasted like it was off.
We asked for the bill and server asked us if we would like a doggie bag, i replied that was the most disgusting thing i have ever tasted in my life and he called the manager over and she started to argue with me, i was like gimme the bill i am leaving.

Damage  = R89
1 beef taco

Rant over, JOZI get with it CT has great mexican food

CT - EL Burro

Been in Cape Town for nearly a week, My grans 100th bday(AWESOME!!) plus some dj'ing gigs.

So i arrive in CT, drop off my bags and head straight to El Burro in green point, i walk in and Sascha (1 of the owners) is there and we have a little chat about Lucha Taco/ El Burro etc and i meet Nic (another owner). The venue is dope!! great wooden tables, nice decor.

I sit down and check out the menu and i'm pretty impressed some adventurous menu options for a south african mexican restaurant and i find out it's half price lunch !!, sweeet.

I ordered the Agua Fresca, it was a little too sweet for me, but it had great flavor.
The pork carnitas taco - this was awesome, great flavor, great texture, loved the corn tortillas.
also ordered the beef short rib with flour tortillas - this was waaay to salty for me, kinda like they let it reduce a little too long.

On my last day in CT i went back and i tried their Elote - it was good, a bit different to mine theirs was a lot sweeter and i use feta and they use parmesan, I prefer my Elote, the creaminess of the feta and sharpness of the lime wins every time.

all in all a great spot and great food, i'm sure with a few tweaks this spot will rocking and set the bench mark for great mexican food in SA and if you know me you know i am a complete food snob and dont give out praise easily so well done El Burro
